Accessible web design

The Ability Incorporated website has been developed to meet the needs and preferences of users, including:

  • people with and without disabilities
  • users with slow internet connections or older computers
  • people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers and Braille displays
  • users who are colour blind.

The international guidelines for accessibility are set out by the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative. This website meets the criteria for AA compliance with W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and has been checked using Bobby and the Cynitha Accessibility Tool.

Text size
Because the site was designed with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and relative font sizing, you can increase the text size, either with the icons ( ) on each page in the top right side of the page or by the directions below:

In Internet Explorer, go to View | Text Size (keyboard shortcut is [Alt][V] then X. Then arrow up or down or choose a size.
In Netscape, [Control][+] will increase text size and [Control][-] will decrease text size.
In Firefox, [Control][+] will increase text size and [Control][-] will decrease text size.

Mac
In Internet Explorer, Apple[+] will increase the text size and Apple[-] will decrease text size.
